Hauling Cat 330 Excavator

You got something big to move? There are a few things you must know before putting that load on the road. The federal gross combined weight rating (GCWR-combining the truck, trailer and cargo) is 80,00 pounds (36,000 kg). This maximum weight is further divided between individual axles: 12,000 pounds (5,400 kg) for a steering axle and 34,000 pounds (15,000 kg) for tandem axles. States set their own height limits, which can range from 13 feet 6 inches (4.11 m) to 14 feet (4.3 m). Widths are typically limited to 12 feet. Whether it’s a small tractor or a large excavator, heavy equipment transport does not have to be complicated, or overly expensive. However, as the weight, size, and distance increase, so do the complexity and mastery of logistics. Heavy, oversized, and oddly-shaped items often require specialized trailers and permits, as well as, escorts potentially. As the distance increases, so does the cost of fuel. You must also consider the increased coordination required, if the load crosses state or jurisdictional lines. Check with your local DOT and a heavy equipment transporter near you to assist with planning.
