Prior to construction, or initiation of any major earthwork, a Stone Construction Entrance (SCE) should be installed. The purpose of the SCE is to reduce the amount of mud, produced by vehicles or runoff, transferred onto paved public roads. Most sites only require one SCE. However, they should be installed wherever vehicles ingress and egress, especially where vehicles will leave a construction site and move directly onto a public road or other paved area. Generally, a SCE should be at least 70 feet long, 12 feet wide, and a minimum of 6 inches of coarse aggregate (2-3” stone). As always, refer to your county or state regulations for local requirements.
